Yayasan Masyarakat dan Perikanan Indonesia (MDPI) is a local Indonesian Yayasan based in Denpasar Bali which aims to support the
sustainability of Indonesian fisheries, specifically tuna fisheries.
Additionally the organization strives to ensure that the communities which are
reliant on these fisheries are also developed and supported with an aim to creating
a consistent and prosperous future for them. Activities towards sustainability
include data collection programs, community engagement, development of
co-management initiatives and implementation of activities towards Fisheries
Improvement Programs (FIPs). With regard to community development activities
focus on awareness programs, alternative livelihood developments and general
community improvements.
We are urgently seeking for:
Traceability Coordinator – 1 position
IFITT:
Improving Fisheries Information and Traceability for Tuna is a new program
which MDPI will implement within Indonesia. This program brings together
various forms of information (information from port sampling programs and
information from traceability streams) to create a data system which aims to
improve access to data for many varied stakeholders involved in tuna fisheries
within the country; fishermen, traders, processors, research institutes, government
and NGOs. The implementation of this program will be done within several pilot
sites. Within this program we require a traceability coordinator to work below
the project manager to implement the various activities of the program within
the pilot sites, throughout eastern Indonesia.
Where:
Based in Bali, with regular travel to sites in Lombok, Bitung, Ambon and
Jakarta.
Requirements:
Minimum degree in Fisheries Management, Fish Processing, Food quality with a
minimum of 2 years
industry experience.

The
applicant should meet the following requirements:
- Knowledgeable on traceability requirements within Indonesia with regards to quality standards
- Have experience in the implementation of traceability within a seafood company setting (processors)
- Understand the rules and regulations which exist with regards to export of Indonesian seafood products to our main export markets abroad
- Have experience in dealing with various departments of government currently involved in the traceability of seafood products
- Be proficient in the use of computers (Microsoft office, email at a minimum)
- Be proficient in the use of English (frequent reporting to English speaking management)
- Be willing to travel frequently to carry out tasks of the position
- Have strong report writing abilities
- Have ability to communicate well in varied situations (with fishermen in rural Indonesian landing sites, within large processing facilities, with government officials)
The
additional requirements are not essential but would be a bonus to the
applicant:
- Knowledge on sustainability
- Knowledge of the MSC certification process
- Have access to a network of stakeholders within the seafood industry in Indonesia
- Have experience in the initial development of a traceability system within a processing plant within Indonesia
