In agriculture, SNV works to improve the livelihoods of smallholder farmers, pastoralists and forest-dependent communities. In turn, we engage with companies to provide innovative, market-based solutions to the issues of sustainable markets, food security and climate change.

 

To support the program, we are now seeking a qualified candidate to fill the post of Advisor Agri-business to work on the EC funded PROSPECT Indonesia project - Promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production of Eco Friendly Rattan in Indonesia.  SNV is supporting Perkumpulan Untuk Peningkatan Usaha Kecil (PUPUK) in implementing this project with a particular focus on working with processors to implement inclusive business models.  The inclusive Business approach is defined as profitable and sustainable entrepreneurial initiatives that seek to contribute to poverty reduction by including lower-income communities within the value chains of companies as employees, suppliers, consumers or distributors.

 

Detailed responsibilities are below:

1. Support rattan processors in establishing linkages and long term cooperation with local rattan producers
2. Support rattan processors in labour force development
3. Facilitate access to technology and finance for SME rattan processors
4. Organize training and support for rattan processers in green products and design
5. Support the Agricultural Sector Leader with implementing inclusive business approaches in other sectors
6. Prepare project progress reports and support project monitoring and evaluation
    
   The Advisor will work in close cooperation with PUPUK under supervision of the SNV National Rattan advisor and the SNV Sector Leader for Agriculture.
    

Duty Station: Cirebon with frequent travel to other areas in Indonesia. Please note that the successful candidate needs to be based in Cirebon on a permanent basis.

 

Candidate profile

• A university degree in economics, agricultural economics, agribusiness, business management or other relevant discipline
• A minimum 5 years of relevant working experience
• Experience in working with SMEs in sustainable production and supply chains
• Good networking skills with willingness to take initiative 
• Results orientated with an entrepreneurial attitude
• Willingness to travel to remote areas
• An understanding of the rattan processing industry is an advantage
• Strong communication skills in Bahasa Indonesia and English

 

Contract duration: 1 year consultancy contract with the possibility of extension.

 

Desired start date: As soon as possible.
