Lowongan 3 Social Scientists (1 consultant/ 2 interns) - CIFOR, Bogor

Location: Bogor , Indonesia

Job Description 

Key responsibilities/tasks

The social scientists will:

  • Review and further develop research methodologies in collaboration with the country research team.
  • Plan and conduct field research activities in the country of assignment.
  • Assist in the data analysis and in scientific report writing including a final report to be delivered at the end of his/her work.
  • Provide monthly activity reports during the data collection.
  • Present and share preliminary results with CIFOR scientists and other relevant partners. 
Candidate Profile

Requirements

Education
  • Consultant: A Master of Science in a field related to social sciences with at least one year’s experience of working in team on natural systems (e.g. natural resource management, forestry, environmental sciences, agricultural or forest economics, or rural development).
  • Interns: At least a Bachelor of Science in a field related to social sciences with at least one year's experience of working on natural systems (e.g. natural resource management, forestry, environmental sciences, agricultural or forest economics, or rural development).
Experience and technical skills

  • Experience in doing research with forest dependent communities in Indonesia.
  • Fluent in Indonesian, with a preference for local languages spoken in West Kalimantan, Papua and/or Java in order to independently conduct research in the field.
  • Very good written and spoken English in order to deliver a final report and presentation.
Desired skills and competencies

  • Good qualitative and quantitative research skills and knowledge related to the assessment of social vulnerabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with local communities and people in a multi-disciplinary and multi-cultural environment.
  • Good knowledge of statistical analysis used in social sciences, including livelihood studies.
  • Good organizational skills, capacity for working independently and thinking critically. 
Terms and Conditions
  • CIFOR offers a competitive remuneration in US dollars commensurate with skills and experience.
  • Airfares and land transportation to and from CIFOR as well as fieldwork related costs will be covered.
  • The candidates should be able to start the appointment at the beginning of January 2014 for a period of nine months for the Consultant and six months for the Interns.
