Human Rights Research Legal Specialist, Indonesia (Volunteer), Jakarta

ABA ROLI is a non-profit pro­gram that implements legal reform programs in roughly 60 countries around the world. ABA ROLI has nearly 700 professional staff work­ing abroad and in its Washington, D.C. office. ABA ROLI’s host country partners include judges, police, lawyers, bar associations, law schools, court administrators, legislatures, ministries of justice, and a wide array of civil society organi­zations, including human rights groups.

Job Summary:
The American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative is seeking a full-time, short-term legal specialist for a period of three months to assist with research, editing and drafting of a legal analysis of the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration (AHRD). The position will involve an in-depth review of completed research on how the AHRD compares against international human rights law, and substantial editing and drafting in order to pull together and summarize large quantity of written work into a concise, complete analysis of the AHRD.

The short-term legal specialist will be based in Jakarta and will work closely with the Jakarta-based ABA ROLI team to finalize this analysis.

Qualifications:
  • In-depth knowledge of international human rights law
  • Excellent research and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • Experience working in developing countries
