The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a regional-intergovernmental organisation founded in 1967, to promote peace and stability, sustain economic growth, shared prosperity and social progress. It comprises ten countries of Southeast Asia.The ASEAN Leaders at their 19th ASEAN Summit on 17 November 2011 officially launched the ASEAN Coordinating Centre for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management, popularly referred to as the AHA Centre. The AHA Centre will facilitate co-operation and coordination among ASEAN Member States, and with relevant United Nations and international organisations in promoting regional collaboration in disaster management.
AHA Centre, with the support of Australia under the ASEAN-Australia Cooperation for the Implementation of the ASEAN Agreement on Disaster Management and Emergency Response (AADMER) Work Programme 2010-2015, is looking for the best, most-talented and highly-motivated ASEAN individual to join the AHA Centre’ team member as Preparedness and Response Officer.
Broad Statement of Function:
Deploy ASEAN-Emergency Rapid Assessment Team (ERAT), prepare disaster assessments, situation reports, initial impact and needs assessment and damage reports, and implement cooperation programmes to further improve ASEAN disaster preparedness and response.
General Qualifications
Position open for Indonesian nationals or ASEAN nationals with permanent resident status in Indonesia.
Education: Preferably Master’s Degree in one or more of the following disciplines: Disaster Management; Emergency Management; Disaster Risk Reduction; Natural Resource Management; Environmental Management; Business Management or relevant subject
Experience:
- At least 3 years of experience with proven track record and exposure to disaster and emergency response operations in a government, international organization and/or private sector;
- Experience in dealing with a wide spectrum of areas in disaster management and developmental cooperation (policies, trends, issues and development) both at the regional and international environment;
- Exposure to relevant activities dealing with various international organizations, related institutions and/or private sector
- Core competence - High integrity and conscientiousness;
- Ability to work under pressure;
- Good composure;
- Ability to project professionalism;
- Ability to work in a multi‐cultural setting;
- Ability to work harmoniously in a team environment and with diverse groups of individuals
- Good understanding of disaster emergency assessment, preparedness and response operations;
- Knowledge of and familiarity with disaster preparedness and response concepts and operations;
- Exposure to disaster emergency response operations;
- Basic knowledge and understanding of concepts of information and communications technology;
- Good regional and international awareness of developments in disaster management
- Managerial Competency - Awareness of regional and international issues
- Good emergency management skills
- Ability to facilitate operations
- Good command of oral and written English
- Good communication skills
- Good relationship management skills
- The successful applicant will be offered an initial 12-month contract with a possible extension and will be based in Jakarta.
