VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Islamic Relief programme in Indonesia was established in 2003 with one project office catering for development activities in Banten province. In 2004 IR expanded its coverage to include Aceh province targeting victims of the earthquake and the giant tsunami waves in the devastated Aceh province then in October 2009, IR expanded its coverage to include West Sumatra province also targeting victims of the earthquake and implementation of emergency disaster relief.

The main sectors for Indonesia Program are Health, Disaster Preparedness, Education, Shelter, Livelihoods and Orphans Support. The geographical areas of operation are Aceh, West Sumatera, and West Nusa Tenggara provinces.

In achieving this purpose, Islamic Relief Indonesia provides opportunities to those having the expertise and dedication in supporting the program with the following position:

Position : Media & Communication Senior Officer

Base : Jakarta

Employment Period : June - December 2013

JOB PURPOSE:

To develop the external profile of Islamic Relief Indonesia (IRI) with its activities and other key stakeholders including government departments, funding bodies and volunteers. Coordinate and support in developing press activities, including producing press releases, articles, photo diaries; lead on branding and marketing of IRI; lead on compiling and producing an Annual Report for IRI; lead on the design, edit and printing of publications; support team members in managing events; assist in updating IRI website and subscribers database; support team members in creative Public Relations and communications; support on reactive media enquiries and assist in the development and implementation of campaigns and projects.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Analyzes and interprets the political, social and economic environment relevant of Indonesia; Aceh, West Sumatera and West Nusa Tenggara.
  • Prepares and implements an information and communication strategy for the Country Office (including a good information system updating all staff on upcoming and completed events through innovative mechanisms).
  • Establishes a network of key media network and personnel and maintains good relationships with Journalists working on issues related to sexual and reproductive health, population and gender.
  • Contributes to capacity building efforts of Media to promote IRI mandate areas.
  • Engage social media to promote the IRI agenda and programme in Indonesia.
  • Contributes to design and implementation of key Media and Communication materials.
  • Oversees media assistance including the drafting and issuing of press releases, maintenance of a media contact list and distribution of current information materials to the press.
  • Supports all documentation requirements of the Country Office (including production and/or sub contracting documentations undertakings).
  • Oversees the reproduction of produced materials.
  • Oversees printed, web-based and audio-visual publications to support the Country Office programmes.
  • Prepares specific briefing materials, background papers, other custom publications and exhibition materials.
  • In collaboration with the IT focal point, oversees the update of the IRI website.
  • Participates in the programme planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation in particular, from communication perspective.
  • Liaises with IR Worldwide in support of media activities of the Country Office.
  • Plans and organizes travel to locations throughout Indonesia to gather information, success stories and case studies.
  • Attends meetings, press briefings and other public events as needed.
  • Performs other related activities as assigned by the Representative and/or supervisor.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
  • A solid academic background preferably in communication, journalism or other related social sciences.
  • Minimum 3 years of progressively responsible experience in journalism, media relations, communications or advocacy.
  • Demonstrated experience leading high visibility communications or media projects.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, with strong analytical and research skills required.
  • Fluent written and spoken English and Bahasa Indonesia.
  • Computer skills (MS Word and Excel) Proficiency in current office software applications and experienced in handling of web based management systems.
  • Initiative and sound judgment. Must be highly organized and have demonstrated ability to work well under tight deadlines and in a team.
  • Strong interest in development work with respect for confidentiality and commitment to Islamic Relief overall aims and objectives, including gender, equality and equal opportunities in all aspects of Islamic Relief's work.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills and negotiation skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to produce accurate work.
  • Ability to understand & interpret organizational policies/procedures
